
QUESO PANELA
A white, mild, pressed curd, non-cultured cheese with a flavor reminiscent of fresh mozzarella.
Excellent paired with fruits such as pineapple or mango. Excellent on tortas or Cuban sandwiches. Delicious for poblano-panela tamales.
Panela will NOT MELT when heated. Try it pan grilled (serve immediately) atop a spring mix salad or paired with a spicy homemade salsa! Also known as "QUESO PARA FREIR".
This cheese was traditionally drained and pressed in bread baskets. Bread in Spanish is "pan," hence the name "panela." Ours retains the beautiful traditional appearance of "grooves" on the sides, originally made by the wicker bread baskets..
